UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Women Health Care Executives of Northern California (WHCE) is a professional association dedicated to the advancement of women in health-related careers.  The WHCE Undergraduate scholarship will be offered to a third-year undergraduate student dedicated to pursuing a health-related career.  The $2,500 scholarship and a one-year complimentary WHCE membership are awarded to a student who meets the eligibility and selection criteria. The scholarship winner will be recognized at WHCE’s Annual Woman of the Year event, to be held in San Francisco May 3rd, 2016.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Female undergraduate student committed to pursuing a health-related career, i.e. health care services, public health, health care policy and research, health care management and administration, nursing, medicine, health technology, health law, etc.

  • Must be a third-year (junior) student, entering fourth-year of college in the fall.

  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at a college located in the San Francisco Bay Area (Counties include San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, Napa, Solano, Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo)

  • Must be in good academic standing

  • The Scholarship Winner is expected to attend WHCE's Annual Woman of the Year event

Selection Criteria:

The WHCE Undergraduate Scholarship is conferred on merit, but financial need may be considered.  Recipient selection is based on evidence of achievement in the following:

  1. Leadership – demonstrated experience as an effective leader.
  2. Scholarship - demonstrated academic achievement.
  3. Integrity of Character – demonstrated integrity of character. A successful candidate is a positive influence on her peer group and displays qualities such as compassion and empathy for others, interest in and respect for others, humility, honesty, loyalty, courtesy, courage, and maturity.
  4. Preparation to meet key challenges in health care – demonstrate preparation to meet key challenges facing health care today
  5. Contribution to health care – demonstrated personal or professional strengths that allow contribution uniquely to health care.

Application Process:

Applications and reference guidelines can be downloaded from www.whcesfbay.org.  Applications must be submitted electronically by 5:00pm PST on February 19th, 2017Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Documents to be submitted:

  • A completed Scholarship application form

  • Current unofficial transcript

  • One page resume

  • One reference letter, either academic or professional

Reference Letter:

Reference letters are weighted significantly in the selection process.  Letters must be signed and submitted by the person whom wrote the letter by the application deadline. Applicants are strongly encouraged to forward the Reference Letter Guidelines to individual submitting the reference letter so that they can write the letter accordingly.
